Junior Cricket 1 of 3

1. Welcome to HWCC Juniors

The Hartley Wintney Cricket Club Junior Section is a vibrant and integral part of the club. With over 250 youngsters (including just under 100 girls) involved in cricket activities of one sort or another, from 5 years old through to 18 years old, we are one of the largest junior sections in Hampshire and at time of writing (May 2021) have more teams (22) competing in the North Hampshire Youth Cricket League than any other club.

The section is built on 3 principles which guide all our activity: Participation, Progress and Progression

Participation - to maintain and increase participation by ensuring that all children have fun while playing the game, whatever their skill level;

Progress - to see every player improve some part of their game through the course of a season; and

Progression - to increase the number of children transitioning from the junior section to play in the club’s adult teams

To achieve this, at the youngest ages we offer the Development Squad for 6-7 year olds and we are part of the ECB All Stars programme for 5-8 year olds. We then run multiple teams at U9, U11, U13 and U15/16 for boys and girls, all of which play in the NHYCL. We also have an Academy structure for ages 16-21 which is designed to keep this age group in the game and progress them into our adult sides.

We have a rich history of on-field success, as witnessed by the Junior Section Honours Board in the pavilion and a long tradition of supplying representative cricketers to the Hampshire and District squads for both boys and girls, but we also deliver for the non-elite player, helping them develop their game in a safe and enjoyable environment. We very much endorse the ECB vision, "to connect communities and to inspire current and future generations through cricket"
